But why delete those 'autorun.inf' files?
Well, in most cases, 'autorun.inf' files are normally, but not always, created by malwares. When an infected drive is accessed the traditional way(double-click), the 'autorun.inf' file executes the malware and your system gets infected. Most anti-virus applications also do not help you remove the 'autorun.inf' files after they clean up the malware. This causes the drive to be inaccessible using the traditional way of double-clicking.
With Autorun Eater, you'll never worry about those pesky 'autorun.inf' files again. Billy the goat EATS them.
When you launch the tool, you'll hear a goat bleeting(depending on your settings).
When you right click on the tray icon, a menu will appear.
Once Autorun Eater is launched, it begins monitoring all your drives in real-time.

Based on the 'Removal Method' setting you chose, a detection window will appear whenever a suspicious 'autorun.inf' file is detected on an infected drive. There are 2 removal methods to choose from:

- Location - Location of suspicious 'autorun.inf' file.
- Suspicious File 1/2 - Suspicious files the 'autorun.inf' is trying to execute. They are not removed automatically, they must be removed manually or by using an updated antivirus software.
- Suspicious File 1/2 Present? - Determines if the above suspicious files are present or not.
- Suspicious autorun.inf content - Instructions used by the autorun.inf file to execute the suspicious files above.
- Ignore - Ignore suspicious autorun.inf file. No future warning will appear for this 'autorun.inf' file unless you use the 'Remove Ignore' option from the tray menu.

- Help - Open this help file.
When you choose to remove the suspicious 'autorun.inf' file, a backup copy is automatically made and stored in a folder called 'Autorun Backup'(located in the installation folder), before the original copy is deleted. If you ignore it, no future warnings will appear for it unless you use the 'Remove Ignore' option from the tray menu.
You can also pause Autorun Eater at any time by clicking on the 'Pause/Unpause' option under the tray menu. No suspicious 'autorun.inf' files will be detected when it is paused.
Closing the autoplay window:
Certain 'autorun.inf' files contain instructions to add extra options to the autoplay window which are used to trick users into executing the malware file. This is known as the social engineering trick. An example of such a trick:
The option highlighted in the autoplay window above looks like the real option to access the drive but in reality you're actually executing the malware! When the 'Close Autoplay' function is enabled and such an instruction is detected, the autoplay window is closed once you choose to remove the suspicious 'autorun.inf' file. This feature allows you to retain the autoplay function but at the same time prevent such social engineering tricks.
Exiting
To exit Autorun Eater, just click on 'Exit' under that tray menu.
