மொபைல் மூலம் உண்டாகும் கதிர்அலைகள் ஒரு கண்ணோட்டம்

Being on your mobile phone for about two hours is about the same as sticking your head in a microwave oven for one second. How long would it take you to boil your head?
More than 47 million people in the UK own a mobile phone. Ping!

Mobile phones use the microwave part of the electromagnetic spectrum. These are the same kind of waves that are used in microwave ovens. Experts have been examining the hazards of mobile phones and base stations over the past three years.
How much energy can your phone produce?
Strict limits are applied to the amount of energy a mobile phone can produce. In the UK it is illegal to sell phones that produce a peak power of more than two Watts. That is equal to two Joules of energy per second.

One Joule of energy in everyday life is about the same energy required to lift a small apple one metre straight up, or the energy released when that same apple falls one metre to the ground. Put in another way, one joule (unit of energy) is equal to 0.2388 calories.
Mobile phones transmit their signals as 217 bursts of information per second. That's one every 4.6 ms (thousandth of a second).
This means that, on average, they transmit for 1/8 th of the time so the average power is eight times less than their peak power. Also, a mobile radiates its energy in all directions, and not just the side where your head happens to be.
When you are on your mobile, it's really like having an apple dropped on your head every eight seconds or so!
How much danger?
Is using your mobile phone dangerous? Well, a typical microwave oven produces a continuous power of 850W. That's 3,400 times more powerful than a mobile phone!
But if you're feeling a bit nervous about using your phone there are a few things you can do:
·         Limit the amount of time you spend on your phone, if that's possible!
·         Take your phone out of your pocket when you're at home or in school
·         Use a hands-free kit
·         Turn your phone off when you're not using it
Terahertz technology (T-rays)
If you look along the electromagnetic spectrum right between microwaves and Infrared waves you will find the mysterious terawaves. These have a wavelength between 0.1 and 1mm.

A very useful property of terawaves is their ability to penetrate fabrics and plastics. That means they can see through clothes! It is only very recently that technology has been developed to produce and use these waves.

It is rumoured that tera technology has been developed rapidly since the 911 terrorist attacks in America. The technology is already being used in major airports to search for concealed weapons.
